Most prison guards have become accustomed to prison violence. Sexual violence has existed for hundreds of years and is not new. Some prison guards think they deserve everything they get in prison. “Some of the prisoners who are raped are rapists and child molesters. More than 500,000 women are raped every year” (Words from Prison: Sexual Abuse in Prison, 2015). Many men are not gay in the prison system. Most men simply have sexual desires in prison. “The Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 requires the Bureau of Justice Statistics to conduct an analysis and review of the incidence and effects of prison rape for each calendar year” (Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) , 2015). Most inmates are looking for opportunities when guards aren't.
