    The Confessions of Saint Augustine recount the events and life choices that Saint Augustine made throughout his life that ultimately led him to convert to Christianity. This was not an easy or quick process for St. Augustine, just as many members of the LDS church spend a lot of time truly converting to the gospel. The conversion of St. Augustine as well as the process of true conversion of members of the Church share many similarities. Both involve testing, which arises from that testing, an ongoing process and meaningful change. In order to understand the importance of what it means to be truly converted to a Mormon, there must be distinguishing factors between that and simply being converted to the Mormon Church. One who is “converted” is one who changes his or her ways in order to live according to the standards of the Gospel and be baptized into the Church. As the word suggests, conversion literally means "the act or process of changing from one form, from one state to another" ("conversion"). The Bible Dictionary, in the King James Version, says that conversion “means to change one's point of view, into a conscious acceptance of the will of God.” He goes on to say, “Complete conversion comes after many trials and tribulations” (Bible Dictionary 650). Bonnie Oscarson, general president of the Young Women of the Church, said that “true conversion involves more than just knowing the principles of the gospel and involves much more than just a testimony of those principles. To be truly converted means that we act on what we believe and allow it to create, “a powerful change in us, or in our hearts” (“Be Converted”).
