Bush On September 11, 2001, terrorists launched multiple attacks on America that claimed the lives of nearly three thousand innocent people. It was a day of destruction and horror that will live long in the minds of many people. The tragedies of September 11 could have been avoided if security at American airports had been stricter. A strong foundation for homeland security is essential to protecting America from further attacks. In the essay "Airport Security is a PC Joke", Yana Zeltser jokes: "The increased security procedures have given rise to a collection of small metal objects such as nail clippers, pliers or any other sharp objects" (Zeltser190). Does the constant looting of carry-on luggage, women's makeup bags and the contents of one's pocket keep airlines safe? It is clear that many efforts to improve airport security have failed. By attempting to add “protective” guidelines, incorporate “enhanced” technology and follow the “no profiling” rule; airlines have failed to protect the real threats facing America. Airport security has become stricter since September 11. For those who are used to flying, they know to arrive about an hour early to go through the “process”. Although inconvenient, airport security was not as intrusive before 9/11. The process was smooth and simple. There have been some questions regarding the contents of the checked bags and whether the bags were left in the middle of paper......
