Throughout history, beauty was known more as someone with a physical appearance that was pleasing to the eye. Although beauty varies across cultures and regions, younger people, with symmetrical, average-looking features, well-proportioned bodies, and some combination of inner beauty and relatively youthfulness are considered beautiful. The more average your characteristics are for society, the more attractive you are. Charles Darwin's cousin, Francis Galton, was the first to notice this when he superimposed images of vegetarians and criminals to see if there were typical facial appearances for each.
