Work Experience ReportMy internship was with Select in Barkingside from 23 September to 4 October 2002. The Select retail store is a small store which consists of manufactured goods . The store I worked in was rather small and had only eight girls working as salespeople and two managers; leader and supervisor.=========================================================================== = ====================== My job was as a sales assistant throughout the store; the store was divided into four sections. These teams included the front, back, fitting room and checkout. The director gave me and the other internship students a job to do each morning for the shifts. I was allowed to go to the cash register from time to time, but had to be supervised by the manager. Even though that was the case, the rest of the staff treated me with respect, the girls working there were all very kind and generous, helping me in any way they could. I must say that this internship was a good choice. ============================================================================= ================================ At the rear of the store there was a small staff room, equipped with cameras, the store was obviously well maintained with proper equipment and security. ========================================= ======================== ================== I learned many communication and problem-solving skills by helping and greeting the many customers who came into the store. However, I hadn't learned any of the computer skills I was hoping to learn. So I asked if I could take care of deliveries and sort inventory and prices. Clothing had to be discounted and I was told how to use the product pricing system. I had to put security labels on all deliveries and secure them by opening the computer system and storing their product number in the computer/cash register. After that, I counted and stored the stocks on bases. This allowed me to acquire more organizational and computer skills. I also had to regularly put was/now labels on the garment for sale and check if the hangers were the right way round with the Select logo..
