Essay / The Connection Between Immorality and Success
Table of ContentsIntroductionDiscussionWorks CitedIntroductionHuman society has been successful for thousands of years. However, over the past century, the successful people are the ones who can be called immoral. Look at any government policymaker, famous Hollywood figures, or even children in our education systems and you will see that moral people are being left behind and the unethical burden awaits them. One question that can be asked, however, is how to define success. Say no to plagiarism. Although each person can define it in their own way, I will define it as achievements and how far you can go in life. Sometimes moral people in the world cannot make truly difficult decisions because of the immoral consequences that follow. This gives immoral people an advantage in that they are able to make difficult decisions. If we look at any wartime American president, we can see many examples of this, especially during the world wars. Jacob Beser, a member of the Air Force during World War II, said that "war, by its very nature, is immoral." At that time, Harry Truman was in power and wanted the war to be over. To do this, he warned Japan that he would bomb one of its three major cities if it did not surrender. Japan did not do so, and so Truman sent a team with the atomic bomb nicknamed "Enola Gay" and bombed Hiroshima. Later they bombed Japan again because they didn't want to surrender. This time they bombed Nagasaki using the “Boxcar”. Members of the team that dropped the bombs would later say that "they had no regrets about dropping the bomb" because it saved many American troops. The president was able to end World War II and saved many lives by taking immoral and harsh measures. This event placed Truman in the history books and succeeded where moral citizens would have failed. 21st century society tries to imitate many people. We try to imitate famous people from our history, people from our classes two seats away from us, or more commonly famous people from today. The pop culture we have today is full of immoral, successful people. Many of them did not achieve this through moral means. Look at Kim Kardashian, she and her family have become international icons. Even if their start is not very pretty. “Kim Kardashian never went to college,” and yet she is one of the richest people in the world (How did Kim Kardashian become famous?) (sic). There are people who went to college for 6 years, but they don't make it. I don't make nearly a quarter of what Kardashian makes. Our society has young people who want to emulate the immoral people who overshadow the hard-working moral people. This is a scary thought for our future as a whole because it teaches them that it is normal and expected to commit immoral actions to achieve the success that everyone desires. Not only has immortality returned to the things we try to be like, but it has also affected our public education. Our school systems are based on tests that unfairly show whether or not we can progress to a higher grade. Children “will want to do everything,, 2000.
