Essay / Abuse of the welfare system - 998
With food stamps alone, a family of five receives $700 or more per month. However, people on food stamps average at least $100 per single person. Please note, these are only food stamps. This does not include housing assistance, free college, infant assistance, free public education, or real government money. Last year, 12,800,000 Americans were on welfare. That’s a total of $131.9 billion used to help them survive. Many people found it easier to live off this money rather than looking for a job. This is called abuse of the welfare system. When I talk about abuse of the welfare system, I mean the illegal use or spending of government funds intended to help those in need. When it comes to correcting a problem of this magnitude, there are several different solutions. First, the government could eliminate welfare altogether. When you can't find a solution to a problem, you eliminate the cause. On the other hand, the government could implement more intense background checks and then use them to prioritize the welfare system. The solution of cutting welfare would mean that any government funds reinvested to support families in need would be used elsewhere. This solution should be removed immediately. This would involve eliminating programs like TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) which temporarily provides cash assistance to indigent families with dependent children through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. If there are families who abuse this program, using it as an incentive to have more children, there are families who use this temporary allowance until they can find a job. It would also force many families to remove their... middle of paper ... need to make sure people are sending accurate information. A partnership with the city would facilitate this process. The city could visit the family and evaluate them to ensure their honesty. It may even be possible to receive small bonuses to encourage you to be honest in your applications. The welfare system is extremely important in the United States. As people become smarter, it becomes more and more complicated to maintain a fair social welfare system for everyone, but organizing the social welfare system suitable for the times would be the best option for the government. We will never have a perfect welfare system, but we can do our best to make sure it is fair and up to date. Removing it completely would do more harm than the current system currently causes. Allowing people to go hungry is not morally right and is certainly not the solution to reducing social spending..
