Essay / Evolutionary change in media and its impact on society
Stop for a moment; look at who are the people in the media industry that inspire you the most. Look now through your Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. Who are these men and women that you identify as your crush of the week? Are these celebrity photos really what they look like in everyday life? Media has evolved over the years and the technology used to edit images is sometimes taken to extremes. With HD screens and higher resolution camera lenses; It's easier to see common pimples and blemishes in people on TV screens. Not only that, but as new products are introduced into society; the culture around us is changing. Not to mention the propaganda methods used to launch these articles. We have propaganda in magazines where it is women of a certain type who present these products. Whether you notice it or not, all these products, social media quotes and propaganda methods are changing society and what we consider the ideal/beautiful body. But why is this happening? Well, when we have new surveys like the one published by Ipsos Open Thinking Exchange (OTX) that “18-34 year olds report spending 3.8 hours per day; 35-49 year olds say they spend 3 hours a day there; and those aged 50-64 say they spend 2.4 hours per day on it. In terms of gender difference, women who use social media spend almost 40% more time on social media sites than men daily (3.6 hours versus 2.6 hours). the media will influence society's views on what is acceptable and beautiful. It is through the media that people are sold and molded into a false idea of what a beautiful/ideal body is and through this process it changes the way society sets a standard of what is beautiful. .. middle of paper.... ..mate History of American girls.
