  • Essay / Theoretical Theory of Prostitution - 756

For this assignment, I discovered that there are two theoretical models that best describe the crime of prostitution. More specifically, this article primarily examines the role of women in the prostitution network and the reasons why they engage in this form of criminal behavior. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the total number of arrests made by police in 2011 for prostitution was approximately 44,000 people, male/female and all races (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2011). The FBI defines prostitution as: The illegal promotion or participation in sexual activity for profit, including attempts. Soliciting clients or transporting people for the purposes of prostitution; own, manage or operate a dwelling or other establishment for the purpose of providing a place where prostitution is carried out; or to aid or promote prostitution (Federal Bureau of Investigations, 2010: NP). The FBI Uniform Crime Report shows that of the 44,000 arrests made by police, approximately 760 of them were under the age of 18 (Federal Bureau of Investigation, 2011). ). There is evidence in both of these theories that prostitutes are being set up for failure in our society; whether through the general stress theory or the theory of labeling people in power as prostitutes. Siegel (2011), states that prostitution was legal in the United States and became illegal due to the influx of immigrants into the United States. Prostitution was labeled a disease, which led to. passing laws to make it illegal. According to Siegel (2011), people should legalize prostitution again" to do what they want. Moreover, most prostitutes consider it a victimless crime. Ultimately, we live in a different era than when the laws were written years ago...
