    Microsoft was sued under the Sherman Anti-Trust Act in 1998 by the United States Department of Justice and 19 states. Microsoft was sued because it “alleged (i) that it monopolized the market for personal computer operating systems and took anticompetitive actions to unlawfully maintain its monopoly; (ii) that it attempted to monopolize the market for Internet browsers because these browsers would create operating system competition; (iii) that he has associated his browser (Internet Explorer) with Windows; and that it engaged in a number of other anticompetitive exclusion agreements with computer manufacturers, Internet service providers, and content providers attempting to thwart the distribution of Netscape's browser" (Economides, 2001). By combining their two services, Microsoft dominated both the operating system but also the browser wars since all computers with the Microsoft operating system came with Internet Explorer.
