Evaluative annotated bibliographyGoodin, HJ (2003, July). The nursing shortage in the United States of America: an integrative review of the literature. In the United States, nursing is experiencing a shortage and is also affecting current nurses. This problem cannot be solved simply by hiring more staff, they also need to be qualified. This article states that the shortage is based on the age of the nursing workforce, declining enrollment, changing work climate, and poor treatment of nurses. They concluded that it was very stressful at first, especially for young nurses. They lack a lot of confidence and are afraid of making mistakes. They have another life on their hands and a lot to do. The first two years you are at the bottom of the totem rankings and it is very stressful. No room to mess up and they don't have a supportive environment. Everyone is running around and worrying about their own patients. There is no easy way to access this position. This is a good reason why nurses quit and find a new job. It is also very difficult to progress in this profession. You need to go back to school and get another degree if you want to specialize and advance. It's difficult to find a non-clinical nursing job when you only have your BSN. It's a lot of work to advance, and even if you plan to advance, you need to work as a clinical nurse for at least two years. This helps me write because it gives you information about why nurses leave in the first few months of their job and why they can't progress. When you work that many hours, you want an incentive, and for nurses, that's hard to get.
