I remember being a child and spending time on vacation with my grandmother. With such an age difference between her and I, we didn't have much to do for the day. Walmart was always the most common day trip we took. It was so convenient for me to find the latest trends in children's clothing, while my grandmother was lucky to find the cheapest, in her opinion, cotton underwear. With gas prices increasing since my grandmother first got her license, she has been very frugal with gas in her 1998 Chevrolet Malibu. She felt like she could get away with it. going to Walmart and getting all the merchandise she needed at a low price compared to a Mom and Pop store. If the item was priced in dollars or less, it was going home with my grandmother, regardless of whether she needed it or not (she would be determined to find a use for the item). Being retired, my grandmother was always conscious of how much money she would spend, so Walmart gave her the opportunity to get more bang for her dollar. Although some may argue that Walmart is not good for the economy, the positive attributes, such as convenience, low prices, and skilled, on-the-job trained workers, outweigh the negatives. Considering the opposite side of Walmart's economic downfall, there are some pieces of evidence to consider. An argument against Walmart is that job opportunities are diminishing. “In an economy that cares about the health and well-being of everyone and does not tolerate poverty, no company can ask people – as Walmart does – to exchange 'low prices' today for the inability to have a job. , buy life's necessities, live in a safe community or count on a healthy environment tomorrow.
