    In the financial sector, decisions have to be made in fractions of a second, which can result in either huge profits or significant losses. The collapse of Lehman Brothers demonstrated to me the vulnerability of all businesses, in that the size and level of profits do not matter, because bad decisions can always generate losses. Making financial decisions intrigues me because I would ultimately like to apply my mathematical abilities to a career in finance. The concept of investing interests me because it involves calculated risks that depend on a set of mathematical equations to ensure that businesses make informed decisions about how they invest their money. When I study mathematics and finance at university, I want to understand how to make viable financial decisions and calculate these risks in the context of different business models.
