When I pursue something that I want or that is important to me, I know that my failures are essential lessons that ultimately lead me to do my best. Despite the setbacks I encountered, I always tried to move forward and learn valuable lessons. A few years ago, I had trouble adjusting to social situations at a new school I was at. I was always a bit reserved and would be passively picked on. So, one day, I ended up fighting three guys from my school. I couldn't defend myself and ended up getting beaten up. One of my classmates wanted to help me and encouraged me to join a boxing club. In turn, my life has completely changed. I learned the skills to defend myself, I learned the importance of never fighting outside of designated martial arts venues, and I learned important values regarding my spirituality. I was amazed at how much this boxing gym has affected my life, and I believe it can have the same effect on the lives of many others as well. Right now, I currently work for Golden Boy Promotions, the boxing promotional company that got me at the gym where I am now and I love it. However, to go beyond where I want to be, being accepted to the University of California will bring me closer to my goal. If accepted, I will be able to learn the professional skills needed to help Golden Boy Promotions become more mainstream, while experiencing college life. I would like to join the Marshall School of Business at the University of California and pursue a degree in business management. The institution is home to some of the best minds in the country and I look forward to the opportunity to learn alongside and from some of the brightest. One of the institution's core values centers on the development of student leadership by providing a holistic environment suitable for learning and other activities. Therefore. I am confident that the University of Southern California has an environment in which I can further develop my leadership, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills, which are essential in the world of management.
