Gregor Samsa experiences the quest for freedom every day when he goes to work to provide for his family. Gregor is a typical struggling salesman, under the burden of his job, trying to pay off his family's debts. Gregor Samsa undergoes a metamorphosis that changes his physical appearance from human to "monstrous vermin". When Gregor begins to wake up, he feels strange and out of place in his bed, "lying on his back as hard as a plate of armor... a hunched brown belly, arched ribs and many legs ". (3) Gregor, unsure of what has happened to him, feels helpless in the face of this situation and desperately tries to get out of bed to open his door and explain to his family and business partner what a horrible travesty has just happened. The author shows this struggle by explaining that Gregor had “…flipped onto his back…” (3) while trying to get out of bed, including that “he must have tried it a hundred times.” (3) Gregor is trapped in this new body incapable of fulfilling his human desires. Gregor is unable to perform most human tasks like a bug that will grant him his freedom, creating this new feeling of "uselessness" in Gregor to his family and workplace. This fall in Gregor's freedom results in the rise of another family member. In the first chapter, this theme is addressed throughout the first stages of its metamorphosis. Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.” » Although this metamorphosis was not Gregor's fault, he woke up not knowing where... middle of paper... his family of their future. It seems that the best way for Gregor to achieve his longed-for freedom is to die. It is in death that Gregor will be freed from the expectations, judgments and disapproval he has received from his family since the metamorphosis. As singer Merrick said, “The secret of success [is that] to rise, you must first fall.” » Grete achieves her success thanks to Gregor's failure. Gregor undergoes a metamorphosis that ultimately kills and frees him. While Grete's metamorphosis pushes her to rise towards her future, in search of a suitable husband. This news may not make much sense at first, but when analyzed in depth, it can pave the way for a completely different and complex story that teaches that the achievement of freedom relies on power to receive it..
