Essay / Reflecting on Nursing: My Study to Become a Nurse
In my studies to become a nurse, I am learning fundamental skills within my professional communication unit that will help me in my interactions with patients. I will reflect on the content of this course using Gibbs' reflective model, focusing particularly on the ideas presented to me in six given excerpts. I will discuss the assessment process, the need to communicate effectively, interview considerations, clinical reasoning techniques, the act of reflection and the practice of training as a nurse; all subjects that are at the heart of the skill. Essentially, I will need to have these skills in order to practice. An excerpt focuses on the clinical assessment process and begins by highlighting the importance of its application in nursing practice. This importance has been highlighted in my studies as we have gained knowledge in preparation for our OSCA exams and I am aware that we will continue to develop these skills throughout the remainder of this course. The most commonly used frameworks for nursing assessments are described in the text, and this information provides a valuable foundation that I can refer to in future practice. The ability to effectively assess a patient will be essential in the practice of nursing. It is therefore valuable that I can refer to it. Assessment is continuous and continuous in the nursing process; and involves a comprehensive collection of objective and subjective information regarding the patient's physiological, psychological, sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual aspects. This article has explored six distinct skills that I will need to use in my approach to interacting with patients as a nurse. Important aspects of patient care are the ability to correctly assess patients, communicate effectively, the ability to collect data during the interview process, assign clinical reasoning techniques, the act of reflection and the practice of training as a nurse. Each has an established position in my professional communication unit material within my undergraduate nursing course.
