Essay / Homosexual parenthood: yes or no? - 1443
Homosexuality as a whole has been and still is a very controversial topic globally. There are many types of discussions about the LGBT community, such as gays and lesbians being parents. Some critics tend to believe that same-sex parenting is bad for children, as if a person's sexuality determines whether or not they are a good parent. There is no definitive proof that being gay makes you a good or bad parent. So there is no way to be one hundred percent sure that homosexual parenting results in gender role confusion, psychological damage, or that a child is homosexual themselves. Being gay doesn't make you a bad parent. Anyone who is willing to take on the responsibilities of being a good and loving parent makes a great mom or dad. So, asking whether gays and lesbians are good parents is like asking whether whites are good parents or whether Jews are good parents. A person's ability to be a good parent should not be based on any of these things. This should be based on whether they will love, protect, support, care for or devote themselves to their child. If a person does these things, and more, why couldn't they become a parent? Gay parents may or may not cause gender role confusion in young children. Critics love to comment on how gay people cause confusion in their children about gender roles, but as long as their parents explain and teach them how society expects a certain gender to behave, then the child should be fine. GOOD. Times have changed, so the idea that women do one thing while men do the other is sort of abandoned. As long as the child understands that each gender is different and that their bodies work differently, a child learns "gender roles... in the middle of a sheet... to show them how to be a woman." That doesn't mean they can't learn these character traits in life without a man showing them a boy or a woman showing them a girl. Ultimately, all a child needs is someone or some people to care about. If a man can walk on the moon, surely homosexuals can raise children just as descended as heterosexuals.
