Michelangelo is considered the most influential genius of the Renaissance. His works are considered one of the greatest achievements in human history. His achievements in life left behind a lasting legacy that changed the way humanity viewed and recognized art. In order to better understand Michelangelo, a person must examine his life, his genius, and his impact. Michelangelo's life is one of the most important parts of history. Michelangelo Buonarroti was born in Caprese, Italy, during a time known as the Italian Renaissance (Bradbury 6). Michelangelo was born in a house with strong and ambitious values (Biography of Michelangelo Buonarroti). From a young age, he showed exceptional potential in the arts and quickly became fascinated with them. Michelangelo's father criticized his son's career choice because he considered art a petty and unimportant occupation. However, his father made him apprentice to one of the best artists in Florence. Influencing and characterizing Michelangelo, Florence was the starting point for this artist. All his life, he will remain faithful to this city, this haven which gave him hope. At the age of sixteen, Michelangelo had created his first works (16.7). Before long, everyone in Florence would know him as one of the best in town. Eventually, the artist's name spread even further and soon the entire European world was immersed in Michelangelo and his art. Pope Julius II, then the reigning pope, was in love with Michelangelo and summoned him to Rome. The time Michelangelo spent in Rome was crucial in his development as an artist (8). In 1498, the “Pieta” was carved (Abridged Encyclopedia of World Biography). Michelangelo believed that even the ugliest things had the potential for beauty. It is an inspiring testimony for those of us who feel rejected or worthless (2806). Michelangelo brought hope to his time by advancing humanity and contributing to his list of accomplishments. The Renaissance was a time of rebirth of culture and intelligence made possible by Michelangelo and men like him who sacrificed themselves for the good of humanity. Michelangelo's life was filled with joy, pain and accomplishment. The achievements he accomplished are among the most coveted in history. No other artist has been as admired and documented as him. Redefining beauty, art, culture and even philosophy, Michelangelo was more than just an artist, he was a visionary, a member of the human race committed to its advancement and prosperity..
