Statistics show that there are approximately 41 people killed by lightning on the US coast alone each year, there is less than one fatal shark attack every two years. (Shark Facts: Attack Stats, Swimming Records and More 1). So, what is the real fear of sharks? Doesn't it make more sense to fear a car accident or lightning? Many people have seen the movie Jaws, a movie based primarily on sharks attacking and fatally injuring people. It's obviously not a real shark, it's a crudely animated animal designed to strike you with fear. This film, among others, is one of the main causes of people's fear and lack of respect for sharks. The reasons for shark attacks are often given as being too aggressive and having a taste for human blood; it turned out to be a false accusation. The most reasonable explanations for shark attacks are: an increase in the number of people going to beaches, people being mistaken for seals, and lack of respect from divers. There are also different types of attacks depending on the circumstances; these are known as "unprovoked or provoked attacks". As the world's population has increased, the number of people going to the beach for vacation or living near beaches has increased, the population has increased, and so has the number of shark attacks. , this may be because people are also going deeper into the ocean and sharks would be able to sense fear, like many other animals. If they know you're afraid, the chances of them "attacking" are much more likely. The probability of a shark attack is approximately 1 in 11.5 million and mortality from shark attack is approximately 1 in 570 million. No one is suggesting we all stop going to the beach, they are however suggesting that you know a... middle of paper ...... to go up, touch and be close. While researchers don't encourage ending all contact with animals, they do believe that you shouldn't be able to touch them because it can be seen as a sign of disrespect or defiance toward the animal. In conclusion, sharks should be respected and not feared, most of the reasons why there has been an increase in the number of shark attacks are the increasing number of people going to the beach, people mistaking people for seals and the lack of respect from divers.
