  • Essay / An Army of Symbolism on a Worn Path by Eudora Welty

In the short story “A Worn Path,” symbolism is used in multiple ways to describe the many things encountered along the way. The journey through the worn path is a symbolism of the path of life. Moreover, the obstacles she encounters along the way are equivalent to the trials of life. For example, Lady Gaga's hit single "Born this Way" tells the story of a "new race" created within humanity. Don't race yourself, but slowly build up to everyone. It is also in the good and evil that circulate in the world. For example, the concept of yin-yang is symbolized by the good and evil of things, describing the opposing forces within these two objects. Such as light and darkness, life and death, man and woman, etc. The story takes place in Natchez, in the southwestern state of Mississippi. The Trace is an old highway that connects Nashville, Tennessee, to Natchez, Mississippi. The story begins in the woods and eventually leads to the town of Natchez. It happened in December, Christmas in the 1940s. In the story, Phoenix Jackson is a little old blind lady who takes a little trip during the cold winter days to the city to get medicine for her little one. son to whom she cares so much. During her journey, she goes through many obstacles and faces many dangers, but the love for her grandson keeps her strong and united. Some time ago, her grandson swallowed some laundry detergent, which made him very ill and needed medication to relieve the pain. In the article “Symbolism in “A Worn Path” “Jackson must go to town “so Reyes2 can get the medicine for his grandson.” She begins her journey one cold morning on a path that she knows very well. She wore a striped dress that went down to the middle of the paper...to her grandson. Keep reaching your destinations, don't give up. People have it worse than you, like Phoenix, she was blind and helpless but continued her destination to get medicine for her grandson.
