Essay / Abortion: women must have freedom of choice! - 990
A middle-aged, happily married woman in a management position is an applicant for a partnership, only to discover she is pregnant. Even though children were part of their strategic plan after education and marriage, the timing couldn't be worse. Pregnancy at this time would ruin her chances of a partnership. She faces two dilemmas. First, even though she is stable in all areas of her life, she wants to become a partner. Second, her partner wants a child and is waiting patiently this time. Should women choose their own path in life when it comes to their family and career? Or should it be a legislative decision? Women should have their own option to decide when or not to have children, because freedom is a choice! “Abortion is never an easy decision, but women have been making this choice for thousands of years, for many good reasons. Every time a society has sought to ban abortions, it has only relegated them to the back alleys, where they have become dangerous, costly and humiliating. Surprisingly, this was the case in the United States until 1973, when abortion was legalized nationwide (Chisholm, 2011). “The word abortion alone causes a lot of resentment and major controversy among the population. Abortion can be considered as one of the major debates among people religiously, socially, politically, culturally and ethically all over the world. Most of the debate about abortion comes down to morality, about whether abortion is right or wrong and whether or not it should be legalized in all medical settings. Protests to end and/or allow abortion have ranged from the most subtle to the most extreme. The world today is torn in three ways when it comes to abortion. Some people agree with it, some people disagree, and some people don't care. ) Facts about abortion. Retrieved May 11, 2011 from http://www.abortionno.org/Resources/fastfacts.htmlChisholm, K.
