    CTV News shared the latest news on October 23, 2013 that four Romanian women were found victims of human trafficking in Montreal. These women were lured to Canada in hopes of finding a better future, but were instead forced into prostitution (2013). Human trafficking is a problem rarely recognized by Canadians. Most people either ignore the problem or don't recognize it as something happening in their own backyard. Although Canadians are exposed to the severity of human trafficking in other countries, Canadian citizens are unaware that Canada is not only a transit point for the United States, but also a destination country. According to information from the Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre, "the RCMP estimates that 600 to 800 people are trafficked into Canada each year, primarily for sexual purposes, and that another 1,500 to 2,200 people are also trafficked into Canada. victims of trafficking across Canada and to the United States” (2010). Canada is a source of transit and destination for human trafficking, with some of the victims being as young as twelve years old (Human traffic, 2010). The definition of human trafficking will focus on victims and traffickers, the increase in trafficking due to globalization, and Canada's role in preventing it. All of these will be explained in more detail. Defining human trafficking can be difficult due to the fact that it can be confused with other illegal activities such as smuggling and consensual prostitution.
