Essay / Book Report: Smokescreen - 1491
Smokescreen is Nancy Hartry's “adrenaline adventure” where nothing is as it seems. It consists of four parts comprising twenty-seven chapters and has two hundred and two pages. There are 3 "books" in which the transition is based on setting (the first book is The Dormitory, the second is The novel is narrated by the main character, a seventeen year old girl named Kerry, in the first person The target audience is teenagers and young adults The main protagonists of the novel are Kerry (in which the story revolves around her) and Yvette (Kerry's colleague at her summer job. they become friends) Kerry Yvette is their boss (the fire chief of). nor communication system and said, "Do I look like I'm worried about your tank?" wait, girls” (Page 25). There are countless firefighters, but the ones who hang around Kerry and Yvette the most are Didier and Aubrey in which Kerry falls in love with Aubrey. Didier is a friendly young man and treats both girls. with great respect and helps them when they need help. Aubrey is calmer and different from the rest of the firefighters, which Kerry finds attractive. He helps Kerry and when Kerry is confused, he explains to her to trust him: "Let your minds and hearts work as friends, loving and trusting each other" (page 153). Later in the novel, there are new characters, including Matt (a pilot that Yvette has something of a crush on), Rolf (an older man who is the head chef), Slash (a man that Rolf hires to help Kerry and Yvette). in the kitchen) and Sirois (the fire chief of base two). Matt is a kind... middle of paper ... usually good on his own but in front of people I get nervous and tend to make mistakes, not just in sports but in general. Overall, I would recommend this novel. I found it funny and the kidnapping part really surprised me because Didier never seemed like he was going to start the fires. Personally, I thought it was Aubrey since he disappeared by chance. Throughout the book there are many action, humorous and entertaining parts. I chose this novel because it had about two hundred pages that met the criteria for the assignment and I found the title and cover interesting to read. Smokescreen is a good mix of action, mystery and adventure in one book, so if you are looking for a new novel to read, I highly suggest you read Smokescreen because it is not too long, tedious and repetitive like the other novels I have read. in the past it was longer.
