Society has indoctrinated men and women to believe that to be considered "beautiful" you must look like the images on television, billboards and magazines .C. Credibility: Since a friend of mine had cosmetic surgery and I have heard many stories about cosmetic surgery, I feel ready to talk about the subject.D. Propositional Statement: Cosmetic surgery remains a problem in society because it carries a certain degree of risk, including psychological illnesses and serious side effects. I suggest that people take a more naturalistic approach and not consider cosmetic surgery.II. BodyA. The first part of the problem is that people who undergo cosmetic surgeries are at higher risk of suffering from psychological problems.1. “Cosmetic surgery does not solve all problems,” explains Associate Professor Ingela Kvalem (Ladegaard, 2012). More patients who have undergone cosmetic surgery suffer from psychological illnesses than those who have not. People who undergo cosmetic surgery are more likely to suffer from deep depression which can lead to body dysmorphia or even suicide. Body dysmorphic disorder is a condition in which you become obsessed with flaws in your appearance and constantly try to change them (“Diseases and Conditions,” 2014). For example, breast augmentation is ranked as the most popular cosmetic procedure in the world. In 2012, more than 300,000 breast augmentation procedures were performed (“Cosmetic Procedures Increase,” 2012). According to Reuters, women with breast implants are three times more likely to commit suicide than others (Fox, 2007).2.
