Essay / Forgiveness Intervention Studies: A Meta-Analysis important discussion. In today's society, most people have at some point experienced a feeling of unforgiveness towards their friends or loved ones. “Forgiveness has been defined as the ability to let go of resentment toward others” (Baskin & Enright, 2004, p. 80). The purpose of this article is to review current research on forgiveness, by conducting a meta-analysis of several studies on forgiveness. By conducting a meta-analysis, recent research will provide guidance for the configuration and expansion of future forgiveness research. “Previous research suggested that people who have been treated unfairly or have emotional problems might benefit from forgiveness” (Baskin & Enright, 2004, p.79). This research examined three theories of forgiveness intervention . First, Baskin and Enright (2004, p.82) separate the study group into three classifications rather than evaluating the entire category of forgiveness studies as one group. Second, Baskin and Enright (2004, p. 82) categorized the differences and compared the decision process to processes based on previous research. Third, Baskin and Enright (2004, p. 82) “examined the effectiveness of forgiveness therapy within a counseling program. session". Baskin and Enright (2004, p. 79) hypothesized that forgiveness therapy is effective in clinical and counseling sessions for intervention. MethodsBaskin and Enright (2004, p. 85) analyzed data from nine empirical studies on the effectiveness of forgiveness intervention in counseling contexts.
