Essay / Richard M. Nixon: The Legacy of Richard Nixon - 1088
The legacy of our 36th President, Richard M. Nixon, who served from 1969 to 1974, left a mixed legacy for better and for the worse. Known as one of the most corrupt presidents in America and is only remembered for one of his biggest scandals, the Watergate scandal. Nixon had many accomplishments, especially in the field of foreign affairs. His vicious, tactful and tactful campaign made many believe that Nixon was an intelligent individual, which he was. “During his nearly six years in office, Nixon made progressive overtures to both China and the Soviet Union” (Roberts 51). Despite these accomplishments, Nixon was indelibly tainted by his scandals. While covering up his scandals, Nixon was under threat of impeachment, instead of facing the embarrassment he decided to resign. Born January 9, 1913 in Yorba, Linda, California, Richard Milhous Nixon. He lived on a lemon ranch owned by his parents Francis Anthony Nixon and Hannah Milhous Nixon. Richard has four other siblings; he was the second of five brothers. The Nixon family experienced financial difficulties and the death of their two beloved brothers. The family moved to Whittier, California, where they had a grocery store and gas station, in which the entire Nixon family worked to make ends meet. Nixon spent his three years at Duke University Law School, graduating in 1937. He met Thelma Catherine "Pat" Ryan in 1938, Nixon was struck by her and pursued her, quite Soon, they were married on June 21, 1940. In 1942, the Nixon family moved to Washington, D.C., where Nixon had the opportunity to join the Office of Price Administration. He soon left to join the Navy in 1942. After his discharge, his political ambition was reignited when California Republicans were seeking a middle of paper. He wanted educational reforms to teach him how he helped our nation and the rest of the world. He quickly lost the respect and support of the people, civilians quickly wanted to depose him as power went to his head. Yet another president who has fallen into the depths of corruption. Our political system has always been riddled with corruption; it is functional for the system. The wrong way of the system is to reproduce itself. Corruption plagues society. It is the torment of the people, the tears of the earth and the disorder of society. These three political leaders started out with tremendous accomplishments that benefited our nation. But all three were overshadowed by their mistakes and scandals. This actually led me to the conclusion that history does not repeat itself but counters itself and that each has led to suffering..
