We, the humans who live on the surface of the earth, are all Overlanders! This is what I discovered while reading Gregor the Overlander, a book written by Suzanne Collins. This is the first book in the Underland Chronicles series. This book had 311 pages of Underland adventures. The story begins with the protagonist, Gregor. He is a bony eleven-year-old boy. He lives in a hot, cramped apartment with his poor and struggling family. He lives in a state of frustration. His seven-year-old sister Lizzie goes to camp, while he's stuck at home watching his 2-year-old sister Boots. His father has disappeared, his mother works all the time, his grandmother is senile and calls him Simon. There is a strange woman named Mrs. Cormaci who comes to sit with her grandmother. Gregor and Boots escape the apartment to the relative freedom of the building's laundry room. While Gregor works, Boots plays with a ball. The ball and boots end up behind a drying rack and are found by Gregor. He sees Boots near the grate in the wall, into which she quickly falls. Gregor...
