  • Essay / The Pros and Cons of Robotics - 1223

We live in a world where every day presents a new threat, a new struggle, a new reason to improve and it seems that we are on the right track, but are we really? There are many different perspectives on the discussion of robotic warfare or the use of robotics, whether international or domestic. For example, the drone or unmanned aerial vehicle is something that we use nationally and internationally. Its uses can be varied, but it is primarily used for scouting and gathering information on specific missions or areas. However, it's not limited to air. It is also used for vehicles on land and water. But today it seems we're past that point and wanting more. We must find and think about new and innovative ways to better prepare the United States, whether domestically or internationally. The war in Iraq is long and very dangerous. So it would make sense to find new tools that can be used to preserve human life. However, with new technologies emerging every day, we must adapt and learn how to use machines correctly to avoid the repercussions or consequences of insufficient use. PW Singer discusses robotics used by the military and the robotics of the future. Whether it is good or bad, we have yet to know. iRobot is a robotics company that launched two sensational products: Roomba and Packbot. Roomba was a vacuum cleaner and could do the job on its own. He was able to sense and determine the shape and size of the room and walk through it to collect dust and other things. Even more interesting was the creation of Packbot. Packbot was designed to keep Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams from putting their lives at risk. This was quite an important creation, because, in Afghanistan and Iraq, IEDs or Improv...... middle of paper ...... do not fire when it is necessary to do so, this will create a problem not only for the machine but for the mission. Another thing that has always been a topic of conversation in the military are the ideas of robotic humans. Send a replica of a human who is actually a robot fighting the war. With a creation like this, there could be no problem because the impact of the outcome could be great, even devastating. This has not happened yet, and with the rapid growth of technology, it may very well be achieved in the relatively near future. As we continue to build and create robots or computers, we will always need to think about the consequences or repercussions we might face. The reactive part of planning should be weird and ready for anything. It would be foolish to build something without planning for it in the worst case scenario, in case the same thing happens to us..
