Essay / Adele Biography '21' - 730
Adele released 21, her second studio album on January 24, 2011 in the United Kingdom and February 22, 2011 in the United States. 21 was released under a joint deal with Columbia Records and XL Recordings. Adele initially wanted to name the album Rolling in the Deep, which was intended to sum up how she felt about her relationship, referring to having someone who is always there to support you. However, she decided against this title and the album was eventually named 21 as it coincided with her age at the time of writing. Adele considered 21 an autobiographical timepiece that represented her personal maturity and artistic growth. Adele began writing 21 in April 2009, while she was in a happy relationship with a man 10 years her senior. She was unhappy with the vibe the songs portrayed and ended studio sessions for a month because she felt she lacked inspiration. Then, a day after her 18-month relationship broke up, she contacted her producer Paul Epworth to begin recording in May 2009. She informed her producer that she and her partner had had a huge argument and that she wanted express your feelings through song. Even though Adele was heartbroken, she was musically motivated and excited. She said it was difficult for her to write music when she was happy and it was easier when she was in pain. Adele has found a way to focus all of her energy and emotion into her music, composing songs that comb through the details of her failed relationship. Adele worked with various producers on the album, with Rick Rubin being the most well known. 21 was then recorded, as there were a number of producers, some songs were recorded in studios in Europe and others in the USA. There...... middle of paper ......eek. The album also topped the charts in the United States, holding the number one spot with sales of 352,000 copies in its first week. Adele broke the record for the longest number 1 album by a woman in Billboard history, breaking the record that was once held by Whitney Houston's soundtrack, The Bodyguard. 21 spent its 23rd week at number one in March 2012, making it the longest-running album at number one since 1985. Much of 21's success has to do with its ability to appeal to many different listeners. Largely, his followers are fans of pop, adult contemporary, and R&B, as those are the vibes his music gives off. The album appealed to listeners young and old. Many people listened to 21 just to make sure they were culturally "in the know" because his music was so widespread.
