    If you have a passion for helping clients solve their problems, this would be the perfect career for you. According to the IFSW (2014), the social work profession promotes social change, problem solving in human relationships, and the empowerment and liberation of people to improve their well-being. The principles of human rights and social justice are extremely fundamental in social work, especially when it comes to advocating for those who cannot advocate for themselves. This profession is open to all types of people interested in obtaining a degree in social work. The first level of diploma is that of the license, then the master's and the doctorate. Some states require licensure to practice social work. To be able to become a social worker, you must have the ability to be patient, to be able to sit and listen, to be empathetic, to be persistent, to be resilient and open-minded. be able to deal with deeply distressed clients. 82% of social workers were women, as they are more likely than men to show empathy, sit and listen, and handle situations better (Fischl 2014). For the District of Columbia where I currently reside, the annual salary for child, family, and school social workers is $51,290. For medical and public health social workers, the annual salary is $66,270. The annual salary of mental health social workers is then $47,950.
