  • Essay / William Paley's Argument on Design - 725

Several philosophers have discussed the fact that we should not trust our senses for knowledge. These deeply held beliefs led to the creation of groups of philosophers called skeptics. Paley's presupposition that the reader will agree that "any sane person" is an appropriate enough response to defend the chance argument detracts from his overall argument. Paley's response would probably be to emphasize the notion of complex design coming out of nothing and the perceived impossibility of this notion. Nonetheless, Paley's response fails to convince me in favor of his fourth argument and instead leads me to question the integrity of some of his arguments.
