Why am I pursuing an MBA? I decided to pursue an MBA in order to continue my career as a manager in the company I work for. The question would be: Why do I think this will improve my career as a manager? The answer to this question requires brief background information. I started my career as an entry-level programmer in 2000, after receiving my bachelor's degree in computer science. My career took a turn towards management in 2003 when I was offered a position as team leader within the company I worked for. Since then, I have worked my way up to my current position as Manager, responsible for a sub-unit managing a specific application product. After working as a manager for 2 years, managing both the resources, budget and tasks of my sub-unit, I realized that my field training was not sufficient to deal with the multitudes of challenges facing I faced daily without a business degree. After much research, I discovered that no other action can change my career path or earning potential like acquiring an MBA. The MBA is one of the most in-demand advanced degrees in the business world today. Business demand for MBAs has increased in recent years and remains strong. According to the 2007 Corporate Recruiter Survey, conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), recruiting companies expect to increase the number of new business graduate students by 18% (GMAC, 2007). Projecting the overall increase in college hiring, Bizjournals.com states that at the master's level, MBA graduates will be in greatest demand.
