  • Essay / Analysis of the film Stranger in Good Company directed...

The name of the film I selected was “Stranger in Good Company”. This film was directed by Cynthia Scott and was released on May 3, 1991 (www.imdb.com). This movie is 105 minutes long and the audience for this movie is mostly adults. I chose this film because it is a heartwarming, slow-burning reflection on life, the strong human spirit, and the meaning of true friendship when it occurs between strangers. Besides that, this film shows us true unity, love and individuality. This film is linked to aging because almost all the actors are seniors and they truly bring their memories of life to the film. This film shows us the sociological imagination, the life course and the diachronic vision of most elderly people. This film has eight characters, six old women and their bus ride and a middle-aged woman named Michelle. The fact that the actors aren't actors makes it even more surprising. I love every one of these women in the film. Everyone has their own personality which comes through beautifully in the film. Their story began when all the actresses were traveling together in the countryside of Quebec, Canada. Suddenly their bus breaks down and leaves six old women, Michelle and their bus driver, in the woods of a remote countryside. They find an abandoned cottage in the woods and to survive, they feast on wild raspberries, frog legs and fish. Besides that, they share their past experiences to kill time and survive in the woods. Before all the women meet, they say little about each of the characters and their past lives. Basically, in the group, one woman is a lesbian, another is a nun, another is a stroke survivor. When they found the abandoned collage which offers no convenience like no b...... middle of paper...... sorry. In short, I loved this film and so did the other students! In conclusion, I liked this film because it showed women from very different backgrounds coming together, accepting each other, and becoming close friends during a moment of crisis. In the reality of today's society, I have seen that women are jealous against each other instead of working together. This film shows the joy of overcoming differences and connecting with diverse women. In a very simple term, the director reminds us of the unique book of life that we each possess. The other message is that older people are separated from society because of their limitations and their age. The older ladies in this film show us and other older people how to bloom again and live again. In this film they share with us their lives, their stories and their lessons from the past to change our typical mentality towards the elderly..
