    The poem “The Landlady” by Margaret Atwood describes personal feelings towards the landlady and the actions done by the landlady. The author describes the setting and how the landlady affects the setting in this poem. The speaker and attitude also contribute to the poem. To achieve the overall meaning of the poem, the author also uses tone to help understand the speaker's feelings toward the landlady. The use of imagery in “The Landlady” is detailed in such a way that you can visualize where the reader lives and how the landlady creates that place. The choice of words Atwood uses in “The Landlady” makes the writing easier and more interesting to read. The poem “The Landlady” has a wide variety of sentence lengths to emphasize certain lines. All elements of the poem "The Landlady" are used to create the overall mood and meaning of the writing. Atwood describes the speaker's life situation as a place in which the speaker may feel trapped. The landlady makes the speaker feel trapped among many other feelings. The speaker feels sadness and hatred towards the living situation that the landlady has created for him. You can tell that the speaker is unhappy by reading the section of the poem "Nothing is mine." » (“The Landlady” 16). It is obvious that the speaker here feels unhappy and trapped. The speaker says nothing belongs to them. Everything in her house is the business and affairs of the owner. The speaker is not happy with the things the landlady is doing.
