The name 5S represents the first letter of five Japanese words which roughly translate into English as sort, put in order, shine, standardize and maintain (Jaca , Viles, Paipa-Galeano, Santos and Mateo, 2014). 5S principles are a tool for creating change in employee attitudes and driving improvement throughout the workplace. The 5S methodology focuses on changing employee habits across the entire organization to achieve improvements leading to the elimination of waste. At Electrolux, 5S principles are taught and, like the Japanese philosophy, they extend from management to assembly line employees. Training in 5S principles, particularly in terms of leadership, has been a key objective this year at Electrolux. It is not uncommon to see 5S panels in conference rooms and offices at Electrolux facilities. Leadership puts 5S principles into practice in the daily environment of all global operations. 5S is an organizational development strategy aimed at improving efficiency, working conditions and increasing learning and changes for the good of the organization (Jaca, Viles, Paipa-Galeano, Santos and Mateo, 2014) . 5S principles promote cooperation throughout the organization, encourage participation at all levels with employee autonomy and promote employee empowerment, which leads to trust and loyalty to the company.
