Essay / Research proposal: The impact of EU migration policies...
The impact of EU migration policies on African countriesThe European Union (EU) has established definitive migration targets which have been constantly reinforced by migration policy (Reslow, 2012). Although the EU continues to work to improve migration policies, Reslow says this is often done without a clear understanding of the impact of policies on countries whose citizens seek to migrate. Lack of knowledge regarding the impact of migration policies on other countries limits possibilities. capacity of European Union officials to change, modify and improve migration policies (Reslow, 2012). Thus, without efforts to examine the impact of EU migration policies on specific countries, the European Union will continue to lack essential knowledge that could be useful in achieving migration policy objectives (Reslow, 2012). It is evident that there is a clear desire to better understand the impact of EU migration policies on different countries. Access to data regarding the impact of EU migration policies appears to have significant implications for improving these policies and creating a basis for the European Union to achieve its migration objectives (Reslow, 2012). The case of African countries and the impact of EU migration policies on these entities are particularly worrying. As Castles (2009) reports, EU migration policies regarding African countries represent something of a quagmire. More specifically, the researcher will need to collect data regarding the number of migration applications, the number of applications completed and accepted as well as the estimated number of undocumented African migrations that take place each year. Obtaining data on illegal migration can be difficult given the nature of these events and the reluctance of many people to discuss them. Thus, the sources of information for the qualitative study and for the quantitative survey would be much easier to obtain..
