Whether it's nurses, physician assistants, radiologists and health information technicians, doctors, medical equipment preparers, etc. When you're constantly working with a wide range of job titles, it's extremely important to be respectful. Working with you should be valued and admired. In some work environments, you will have that boss who is demanding, shows favoritism, and is overly critical. This is not someone for whom you constantly want to exceed expectations and who can make your job very difficult. It is not only between colleagues that respect must always be demonstrated. As I mentioned earlier, the diverse group of patients you will encounter can sometimes require patience. , good listening and effective communication. What I think might be an effective way to remain professional and respectful is to investigate the community in which you work. Already having a basic knowledge of the patients you will primarily care for can help with how you interact, talk, and can even know if certain illnesses affect one group more than another. Being professional means eliminating excuses and doing what you said you were going to do. Unprofessionalism and disloyalty make it unproductive for those around you. The word loyal is an adjective meaning to give or show strong and consistent support or allegiance to a person or institution (Merriam-Webster). Loyalty at work is very important. Important qualities of loyalty in the workplace are being aware of being critical in front of others. Often this happens because of an incident and you, or whoever is being spoken to too, are in someone's way of "blowing off steam". Being belittled and criticized in front of your peers undermines your self-confidence, and respect for your peer who did it. When it comes time to have a discussion about a situation, you need to have an honest and respectful conversation in private about the right path forward. Exceeding expectations is crucial for every workplace, but sometimes the idea of going "above and beyond" could land you in unprofessional predicaments. Referencing what I mentioned earlier regarding understanding the demographics of the community you provide care to and being culturally competent, you are professionally exceeding expectations. Contributing to communication and language assistance, leadership, commitment and responsibility are all factors that exceed expectations as an employee. There will be many cases that arise due to misunderstandings, a truly accidental error, and/or a miscommunication. Listening is a great technique – I say this because I mean, listen carefully not only to everyone involved in the situation, but also to your own thoughts.
