The ethical dilemma in this case study is Barbara Dean's scope of practice with her role as a physician assistant and Dr. Granger's ignorance of her scope of practice. According to the American Association of Physician Assistants and their ethical guidelines, we as physician assistants must follow strict guidelines and adhere to setting boundaries in all medical aspects of our career. For example, the scope of practice follows certain regulations, followed by actions and procedures specific to each profession. However, scope of practice may vary from state to state and it is the responsibility of the medical assistant to verify their duties (Lewis, Tamparo, & Tatro, 2012). These regulations concern training, education and skills demonstrated within the scope of practice of each profession. However, nurses, doctors, and physician assistants all adhere to different codes of conduct regarding their duties within their scope of practice. For example, medical assistants are not allowed to independently triage clients, perform minor surgical procedures, etc.....
