  • Essay / Organization and coherence at school: common planning...

A school organization is only valuable if effective systems and structures are established within the institution. The effective school leader must demonstrate the ability to assess and align the necessary systems, structures and resources to enable staff members to maintain or improve student learning outcomes. As a second-year principal, one of the gaps in the structure is the lack of consistency in our Common Planning Time (CPT). Although I have developed a template for these meetings, I have not modeled or fully defined the expectations and outcomes for the purposes of the CPT. Additionally, re-establishing structures for student discipline and family engagement has been a challenge at our site, and it is imperative that we continue to strive to perfect them. Only when schools are organized can leaders harness resources and focus on learning and other relevant issues that can impact student learning. This system was put in place before I became a school principal two years ago. However, it also took a long process to achieve substantial results under the common planning structure. During my first year, teachers used this pad to plan field trips, make copies for homework, or at best align resources for a scripted curriculum. My goal for first grade was to focus on literacy. Additionally, I developed a meeting template that teachers can use, anchored in the Outcomes-Oriented Inquiry Cycle (ROCI) system. Once a week, our teachers meet collaboratively to plan, analyze student work, and make adjustments to meet needs...... middle of paper ...... authentic relationships with parents. Although all our parents want their children to succeed in school, they are often hesitant to get involved, whatever the reason. Therefore, establishing a welcoming environment and building relationships with parents is our first step. It also forced us to look at the existing resources we already have. Our teachers are those who have the closest connection with parents. Asking teachers to personally invite parents for discussions with principals and other school-related meetings is an important start. Although we don't have all the answers, exhausting all efforts and opportunities to increase parental involvement is essential to student success. Establishing and refining effective school systems and structures is an essential and vital element for sustainability and an important lever for student improvement. results.
