Today, cultural misunderstandings are rightly blamed for the failure of many international joint ventures, leading to much personal stress and financial loss. Although culture is a difficult subject to learn, we must learn it necessary, and there are three reasons why intercultural studies has become a compulsory subject in many countries; the increase in international population, the vision of culture and the development of business and society. First of all, the reason is the development of business and society. “Cultural norms refer to collective expectations about what constitutes appropriate or inappropriate behavior in a given situation. They serve as standards or a set of rules for what we should or should not do in a conflict scene” (Stella Ting-Toomey, 2001 pp11). Since this is explained, we know that if we want to do business or join in another country, the first thing we need to do is to know deeply what the culture is. What is culture? Culture is a learned meaning system that aims to promote a specific sense of the common characteristics of communities among their team members and transmitted to other people in a society. Members of a culture learn the meaning of right and wrong that leads to particular consequences in different communities. They learn the meanings or interpretations of what constitutes appropriate and inappropriate conflict behaviors by adhering to or deviating from such behavior in a particular community. After culture knowledge, people need to learn about the culture of their participating countries. Every country has a different culture and tradition. If people do something wrong, they may lose a chance to join or do business with other countries. Through intercultural studies, the student can understand and appreciate the culture of another nationality or country. Intercultural study inspires students to learn more about the local culture, this can boost their confidence. In addition, teach students to know other cultures and countries, cultivate the attitude towards other cultures, and ignore gender, ethnicity, religion, class, age, etc. In conclusion, there are three reasons why intercultural studies has become a compulsory subject in many countries; the growing international population, the vision of culture and the development of business and society.
