  • Essay / Becoming a Nurse During Personal Adversity - 638

I wanted to become a nurse after an incident with my son, Jordan. He was then nine months old. I went to lay him on the floor in Melisa's, my daughter's, room so they could play. Jordan was playing with blocks and Melisa was trying to get him to play with his dolls. The phone rang. It was my night call from my husband's grandmother, we called her Probe. Probe called to talk about all his neighbors and family members and what they had done that day, hence the name Probe! After about ten minutes on the phone with Probe, Melisa came over and said something was wrong with Jordan. So I got off the phone with Probe and went to Melisa's room. Something was definitely wrong with Jordan. He was very limp when I came to pick him up. His lips were turning blue and his eyes were rolling back in his head. I asked my daughter if he had swallowed anything and she said no. Thinking he might have done it, I started scanning the inside of his mouth looking for anything unusual. Nothing was found, but it started clinging to my finger and wouldn't let go. My first instinct was to call my mother. She and my father called the ambulance and we went to the hospital. After the exam and numerous tests, we discovered that Jordan was suffering from febrile seizures related to an ear infection. These chronic ear infections and seizures continued with seizure medications, antibiotics, and antihistamines until Jordan was 5 years old. For me, it was an eye-opening experience. I will never again be put in a position of not knowing what to do. I started researching nursing schools and had to make another life-changing decision. The support I hoped for from my husband was not there. Telling me it was just a waste of time and money. I knew that for me it was ...... middle of paper ...... with change is essential for accurate job performance. I am fulfilled knowing that the new nurses I train, the businesses I have run, the practical nursing courses I have taught, and the countless number of peers I come into contact with, understand the importance to disseminate knowledge to others to help them benefit from it. in their own way.I am determined to achieve my goal of furthering my education. These circumstances are the reason why I started nursing and I will continue nursing.Getting an education was very important to me in 1987 and it It's still important to me today! I hope to study Bachelor of Science in Nursing through WGU so I can continue to accelerate my nursing career..
