  • Essay / Nuclear Strategy - 1080

The question “what is or should be the function of nuclear weapons?” » for me this is an easy question to answer, there should be no function for them. I do not find it necessary to have nuclear weapons in the post-Cold War era; they are massive genocide machines that serve no purpose at present. During the Cold War I can easily find reasons to use them, but the Cold War is now over. But in reality, we know that it is a huge dream and that it will probably never be realized to rid the world of nuclear weapons. So, from a realistic point of view and for the purposes of this article, I will say that the only logical (for now (not really logical) way to use a nuclear weapon is through deterrence. In this article I will talk about how I think this should be done and what opponents of my view think. I will also talk about how nuclear strategy has many complexities and is not as simple as simply removing weapons. But the main focus of this article is what the function of a nuclear weapon should be, that is, deterrence. Deterrence is a military strategy whose main goal is to prevent an enemy attack or to persuade an enemy not to attack you knowing that it will also be destroyed. Fortunately, during the Cold War, despite the rapid development of weapons technologies, there has been no large-scale strategic conflict since World War II. Nuclear weapons, the most destructive instrument on the planet, have played a vital role in stabilizing relations between the superpowers by making conflicts illogical and incredibly destructive and costly. There are many other reasons why states choose to develop nuclear weapons, but deterrence is the primary role cited by most proponents of nuclear weapons. Some even say that continuing the effecti......middle of paper......increasingly difficult. But with times changing and the Cold War ending, there is hope of using nuclear weapons for peace and never seeing them used. In my opinion, we have no choice but to accept what we have been given, when it comes to nuclear weapons. We have created a situation for ourselves from which, in my opinion, there is no escape. Solutions such as disarmament or reduction of nuclear weapons are extremely unrealistic, because no sane leader of a state would ever endanger the security of his own state. So for now the only real answer is deterrence and let's hope that the great successes of nuclear weapons will bring peace to the world and never lead to our own destruction. Let us hope that no matter how complex the nuclear strategy becomes, the leaders of this world will continue to use nuclear weapons and find better uses for them in the future..
