Essay / Organizational Effect on Employee Psychology - 1942
Organizational Effect on Employee PsychologyOrganizations are defined as a social group of individuals who come together to achieve a common goal or a particular objective. An organization's success begins with a solid foundation to build on. The foundation begins with a vision, followed by a clear and concise mission statement and supported by an excellent employee base that executes the plans. When we magnify the different levels of a successful organization, it usually reveals great leadership and the loyal employees who follow them. Understanding the importance of good leadership and the value of high-performing staff is essential to the success of any organization. The relationship between the organization and the employee psyche can be very fragile, and management must take steps to ensure that the employees who promote the culture feel valued and stress-free as much as possible. It’s a challenge, and it’s why industrial/organizational psychology (IO psychology) has become so prevalent over the last ten years. Cherry (2014) stated that IO psychology uses psychological theories and principles to solve problems related to the workplace and organizations. These issues include worker productivity, selecting qualified candidates for specific jobs, and improving the mental and physical well-being of employees in work environments! I had the unique experience of working for an organization that has been around for over 125 years. This organization has survived the ups and downs of the nation's economy, endured five major American wars, and, most importantly, employed hundreds of thousands of people during its existence. During my two years of employment, I have noticed several key areas where this particular organization is suffering from ...... middle of paper ...... and associate satisfaction. I believe this organization will continue to overcome the trials and tribulations that plague it, and if it implements the solutions I recommend, it will experience success at a level it has not experienced in some time. My store was ranked in the bottom 20% in the country when I first took this job and the census reflected those dismal results. Just two years later, my store was ranked in the top 10% in the country and I received the “best of the best” award for my performance in 2012! To my credit, the solutions I present in this article are similar to those I have instituted in my shop and I did not need a degree in rocket science to implement them. As Albert Einstein (the rocket scientist) once said: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”.”.
