    Photo manipulation has been around for years, but it has become more and more controversial lately. Celebrities and models are retouched in various forms: photographs, online advertisements, magazines, etc. There are more forms of advertising today than ever before. Technology is becoming more and more advanced. With more advanced technology comes more and more consumers, of all ages. Today, younger generations are becoming more familiar with new gadgets. They are likely to be exposed to retouched photographs from online advertisements. Many of the models in these photographs are often photoshopped in ways that negatively influence today's consumers, teens, and young adults. There should be rules and limits for editing digital photographs to reduce the pressure and manipulation placed on society. Photographers have the freedom to express their artistic talent to their audience. According to Cornell University Law School, they are allowed to exercise “freedom of speech or of the press.” Editing photographs should in no way be illegal, but photographers should consider reducing the amount of editing on images. Photoshopped photographs can greatly influence many adolescents and young adults on what they should and should not look like. By limiting retouching and applying standards to certain types of photographs, society is less likely to doubt their appearance. For example, excessively manipulating the image of a well-known celebrity like Lady Gaga can significantly influence many young women's perceptions of beauty. Flawless skin, a disproportionate figure and a slim body are hard to come by these days.
