  • Essay / A study on waste sorting and waste awareness...

For various reasons, urban areas face many challenges. Unhealthy disposal of solid waste is one of the significant problems in many societies, and waste recycling is considered as a solution to manage solid waste. Waste management represents a great challenge for environmental sustainability, it shows not only the challenge but also the social handicap. In India, there are various laws, regulations and guidelines relating to solid waste management, such as: MSW (Management and Handling) Rules, 2000. Plastic Waste (Management and Handling) Rules, 2011 Toolkit for Solid Waste Management - Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, 2012Despite these rules, regulations and guidelines, waste management remains a big challenge for the urban society. Solid waste management is the primary responsibility of local authorities, so people will not give much importance to this waste management in India. Normally, people think that waste means any organic or inorganic substances that have lost their valve by the user. But there is no such thing as waste in nature, it's just resources that are in the wrong places. If we use these wastes as resources, environmental sustainability can be achieved. Waste management will be successful, it will require people's support and their active participation and involvement. People's participation is very important in two respects. Namely Storage of waste/sorting of waste at source is an essential step in waste management. The practice of the 4 'R's - Reuse - Recycle - Reduce - Refuse The attitude of young people like students towards waste management can reduce the problem of solid waste in urban areas. areas especially maintaining cleanliness and proper use of waste....... middle of paper...... as well as in urban areas.
