Essay / The complexity of success - 850
You want to be happy? Of course yes. A popular belief is that success is a guaranteed way to be happy. In fact, most parents follow this guideline. We are taught as children that if we want to be happy, we must first succeed. In the stressful world we live in today, happiness is rare. For this reason, our parents push us to work hard to succeed. Guaranteed happiness sounds great to everyone, but in reality, there is no way to obtain it. Although the concept of success and the emotion of happiness share some connection, they do not fully influence each other as many believe. Additionally, although success seems simple, it is actually quite complex. Parents, and most people, view success as crossing a finish line; get the scholarship, get a good job, buy a big house. Success is more like a lifelong marathon. You have to keep working to succeed. Once you achieve this, you must continue to move forward to succeed; get good grades in college, work for the next promotion, stay on top of my bills. As you can see, success is not what it seems; it’s not black and white, it doesn’t control happiness, and it’s not just a finish line. Imagine working very hard and achieving nothing. This is not a very uncommon feeling. Working hard alone does not make someone successful. In fact, the road to success is long for most people. For example, many factory workers spend years and years working hard for a company, without ever getting a promotion. On the other hand, some factory workers work for a few years and advance within the company. The difference between the two isn't hard work, it's something different. Anyone can master a certain skill, whether it is job related, ...... middle of paper ...... comes home to a happy family or man's house rich guy from down the street who doesn't have a care in the world. All this shows that even being considered successful does not bring happiness; and being happy, of course, does not make you successful. Ultimately, the concept of success is tricky. From the outside, success seems simple; However, to succeed, it is not enough to work hard. It takes time, effort and a skill set. On top of that, success requires maintenance; once you achieve it, you must work to maintain it. Furthermore, even if the notion of success and the emotion of happiness seem to be inseparable, they are far from being so. Examples of people who are successful but not happy, happy but not successful, and both happy and successful, are all around us. Overall, the concept of success goes much deeper than what appears on the surface..
