Seeing a person less of who they are simply because of a physical or social attribute to which they relate, is what we call 'oppression. It is a social evil present in society since time immemorial and due to societal imbalances, it is difficult to combat this vice. In “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, oppression is very practiced and, like in any other normal society, it is impossible to deal with it. The film highlights different types of oppression and the imbalances present in normal society in a story mixing love, hatred, deception, lust and revenge. Oppression in modern society is not much different from that which existed in the past. Therefore, the film “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” can be used to highlight, discuss and demonstrate the problem of oppression in the modern world. The vice that involves silencing the weak by those in power has been present since medieval times. and this has been a serious social scourge. Since the time the film was made and the era of life it depicts, there have been divisions, social imbalances and harmful acts committed especially by those in power. Vice has had various adverse effects on society since time immemorial. It has created divisions in societies, destroyed others, and limited the social growth of certain races and other societies, to name just a few of its effects. The root cause of vice comes from the simplest relationships, those of husbands and wives within their homes, and then it spreads to the workplace where the relationship between employer and employee exists. The relationships that could be affected by oppression were those with a more powerful party or with...... middle of paper ...... these qualities of individuals in society do not constitute a positive mix, so society is doomed to oppress each other in every way. Anyone can be oppressed since the divisions in society are vast and one can fit into either side of each divide. Therefore, the aspect of weather does not affect the oppressive nature of the people. Ableism, sexism, classism and many other forms of oppression existed in medieval times and are still present today. They simply do not die but change in intensity and shape. It would be correct to assert that oppression will never end since society and its divisions will exist forever. It is the most difficult form of vice to combat.
