Essay / Offering - 1112
Offering is a word and an action that many of us are familiar with. But what is the offer and what is it for? It is a word often associated with giving. Yes, offering is giving, but not every gift is really an offer. The Bible has a lot to say about offering. If you search the New King James Bible (NKJ), the term offering appears over 500 times! The offering is the way the Divinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) lives. The offering produces life. In fact, this is how all life is produced. The offering is the expression of love. The offering is God's economy. The offering is the act of a heart that “seeks first the kingdom of God.” In all of this, there is one word that has really spoken to me lately. The offering is how we gain a testimony before God. This means that this is how we discover who we really are and who we are not. This is how God “remembers” us. God put this desire in all of humanity – the desire to know who we are and to be remembered. We find this through the offering. The first time the word “offering” appears is in Genesis 4:3 where we read of 2 offerings; one brought by Cain and one by his brother Abel. These men were the first 2 sons of Adam and Eve. Gen 4:3-5 And in the course of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruits of the ground unto the LORD. Abel also brought the firstlings of his flock and their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, but he respected not Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry and his face fell. In this interaction we see that Cain and Abel both brought an offering to God, but for some reason God respected Abel's offering and not Cain's. In Hebrews we read this: Hebrews 11:4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than...... middle of paper ......rd was trying to tell me this. It was during this time that I heard the word “seek ye first the kingdom.” Hearing this word, I cried out to God for the first time in my life to remember me. It was here that I vowed to the Lord, in faith, to find remembrance. In making this vow and fulfilling it, the Lord opened doors that I can truly say would not have been opened if I had not responded to the word to “seek first the kingdom.” During this time, the Lord blessed me financially, led me to buy a house, and healed my anxious heart. It was here that I began to find a testimony before God through offerings. It’s something I’m still discovering today. Be encouraged that when you first seek the kingdom and offer with a heart to know Him and His plan for your life, you are truly engaging with God and He remembers you. You find your testimony and your name through the offering.
