Very few people know about Alfred Edward Housman, better known as AE Housman, or his works. As Housman matured and evolved, so did his poems. His success eclipsed many other poets at that time. The majority of his poems expressed his love for his heterosexual roommate, Moses Jackson. This expression of love was a driving force behind most of his poems. This defining moment in his life catapulted his writing style. Housman was best known for his creative love poems with strange endings, due to this hidden passion. He also expressed that the dead always had their way of showing their love to each other. Little is known about how Housman actually communicated with people through his poems. The sadness and doubt that Housman's poems capture capture readers' attention. His poems are still read and studied around the world. (http://www.biography.com) Alfred Edward Housman was born on March 26, 1859 at Valley House in Fockbury. The Valley House was near Bromsgrove in Worchester. He was the eldest of seven children. His father was a lawyer but worked as a country notary. Growing up, he and a few of his siblings were avid poetry writers. They loved writing humorous poetry. As an adult, despite the rise in importance of novels in literary form, his more mature poetry often displays touches of dark comedy, even a legacy of youth. Housman's early years were saddened by his mother's illness and death. His death had a lasting impact on his life. His father's lack of skills to be a good husband and father often caused the family financial problems and many other problems.
