    Animal testing is a common practice in today's life that is necessary to ensure the safety of humans who will use the product being tested. There are many positive and negative aspects of animal testing, but the pros clearly outweigh the cons. Animal experimentation has existed since ancient times, when animals were dissected to gain knowledge about the body and organs. Animals killed in animal testing represent a tiny percentage of the total animals killed each year. If we simply consider animals used for food versus animals used for testing, animals tested represent only 2.6 percent of that number. Public safety far outweighs the lives of the small number of animals killed. The number of animals used in animal testing pales in comparison to the number of animals eaten each year.
